University of Strathclyde’s Centre of Energy Policy highlights need for urgent action on low cabon fuels if Sullom Voe Terminal is to avoid becoming the next Grangemouth

Sullom Voe Terminal risks becoming another Grangemouth disaster with hundreds of job losses and millions wiped from the economy unless urgent action is taken.

That was the stark warning issued today (Wednesday) from researchers studying the impacts of the net zero and energy transition on the Shetland economy.

The University of Strathclyde is leading a new project to investigate the potential of utilising offshore wind and marine energy to produce fuels for use in heating, energy storage and difficult to decarbonise transport applications.
