Alastair Stuart

Assistant Professor

Alastair Stuart is an Assistant Professor in Sustainable Engineering in the department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering and in the University of Nottingham’s Propulsion Futures Beacon of Excellence. Alastair started his career as a Mechanical Engineer in the fabrication industry where he was responsible for the commercial manufacture of pharmaceutical, petrochemical and off-shore pressure regulated equipment. Following the completion of his PhD with Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Alastair joined the University of Nottingham in 2011 to work on a project funded by E. ON’s International Research Initiative for which he was responsible for the design and testing of a novel thermochemical energy store for concentrated solar power plants. Alastair has continued to develop an expertise in innovative and sustainable energy storage and conversion technologies. This includes solid state hydrogen storage, metal hydride hydrogen compression, and hydrogen systems.
